CONFESSIONS of the OTHER WOMAN
by Valerie Sing Turner
performed with Kevin Loring and Matt Ward
Happy February - its LOVE month
It has been a bit of a world wind since Four Mad Humours premiered in Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and Buffalo last fall.
We are busy cleaning up, filing reports and pitching a new (what we are calling) “unplugged” version so that many who did not see all four solos get the opportunity.
After dancing in Maxine Heppner’s My Heart is a Spoon in January I flew off to co-direct Confessions of the Other Woman with my grad school sweet heart Vancouver’s Urban Ink Artistic Director Diane Roberts. Diane and I have reconnected after 16 years - each having traveled in different directions and each carving out our own unique approaches to performance creation and production. Now, as we slip these worlds together - it has been mind blowing for us - they meet up like two sides of one brain - amazing - fabulous. It has been a joy to join Diane’s world at Urban Ink - I was just at Urban Inks poetry Love slam - the company is changing the way theatre is constructed and performed. I am honoured to be a part of their team. Here’s a note from Diane Roberts - the other side of the collaboration.
“I am full to bursting with the joy of creation together with my long time friend and much admired colleague Gerry Trentham. When I mention co-directing to my colleagues their first reaction is always “how does that work?” and I hear in their voices the sting of past experiences. For the past 18 months Gerry and I have been dancing into the centre of each other’s work and in that dance we’ve found a common ground. I feel honoured to be working with my kindred spirit—a brave warrior who is unafraid to step into the fire with me and wrestle truth to the ground. We at Urban Ink are excited to have sparked what we hope will be an ongoing collaboration with lbs/sq”.
Check it out on Facebook - or click on the photo and see the trailer for the production - the show is a true syhthesis of theatre, dance, music and design. cheers
While pounds per square inch is gearing up for the next adventures —- I am staying in shape performing for others —- always a good thing after having to perform for my tyrannical self. Here is a pic from Maxine Heppner’s My Heart is a Spoon - we open this Friday in Toronto.

Amy Taravella - you are amazing - outside in the rain — us all warm under our coats and umbrellas, you like a wild child celebrating in the rain and mud - wow
Thanks Jeremy for you beautiful music. Thanks all those who planned the Fluid Culture celebration… and of course to Kerry Mitchell (under an umbrella) and Lynda Schneekloth for all your support in creating the dance Water Body in the first place.
